Eight finalists were selected from over a hundred applications for innovative work to solve a societal problem. Ananya started Neptune Project  in 7th grade to create a litmus test strip to detect lead levels in water. Neptune Project also uses census data and CA state blood lead level data in children to predict areas with the highest risk of lead contamination. Ananya is going to use the model in the neighboring states of Arizona and Nevada to identify buildings with the highest risk. Ananya was the youngest awardee and the only high school student selected.
